Dear William: Our First Date

3:03 PM

Dear William,
Before Christmas, you started telling daddy and I that you wanted to take me on a date to Costco.

You told us you needed a rainbow tie and that we'd go out for pizza.

You talked about this rainbow tie so often that it eventually became the most requested item on your list from Santa.

Luckily, Santa is pure magic and came through for you by delivering a Rainbow bowtie under the tree on Christmas morning.

Opening your bowtie from Santa on Christmas morning
To say you were excited would be an understatement. You wore it proudly on Christmas Day and even requested it for nap time and bedtime  (over your pajamas).

Christmas evening at Grandma & Grandpa's house

Pajamas wouldn't be complete without your dress shirt and bowtie!

You wore it to school and showed it off to your teachers and friends.

The pride you take in being "handsome like daddy" when wearing your tie is the sweetest thing in the world.

And since getting your wish of a bowtie for Christmas, you began talking more about taking mommy on a date to Costco.

You have the best and sweetest daddy on the planet so he took you to Costco on a boys trip, just the 2 of you, and had you pick out the flowers you wanted to buy me. He also checked to see how much it would cost for you to buy me dinner. He bought a gift card with enough money on it for you to take me on a proper date, and even pay for it yourself with the gift card.

You came home so excited to share the news that you would be taking me on our date on Friday. And all week we talked about how many more days that was. Every time it came up you got a huge smile on your face. And if we were home, you'd check your wallet (daddy's old wallet that he gave you) to make sure you still had your special card for our date.

Thursday night before bed we talked about our special date planned for the next day. You told me to "be sure to call daddy to remind him not to go to work tomorrow so that we can go on our date, mommy" (even though our date was planned for dinner time).

Friday morning you woke up even more excited for our date! You had to go to school first, of course. And then go through all the usual stuff we do every day before daddy came home from work.

Once he was home, I got dressed up in a pretty dress.

Daddy got you ready, complete with your bowtie and combed your hair.

And we snuck out of the house so that John wouldn't be too upset that we were leaving without him!

The drive to Costco was adorable because you were so excited!!

We arrived and held hands while walking in to the store. We took our coats off and you were all smiles when we went to get our shopping cart. We were stopped twice and complimented on how handsome you looked in your bowtie and you proudly shared that you were dressed up and taking your mommy on a date. I'm fairly certain the ladies in Costco were melting thanks to your cuteness and huge, proud smile.

The first order of business was buying mommy her flowers, which you paid for at the checkout all by yourself.

Then, you took me out for our fancy dinner. Pizza for me and a hotdog for you.

When we were done eating you bought me an ice cream and yourself a smoothie.

I shared my ice cream with you :)

Flowers, ice cream, a smoothie and a bowtie!
When we finished eating we did some shopping and then took a couple pictures by the cool Polaris truck before getting in the car to head home.

Mommy and her handsome date

It was one of the best dates I've ever been on with one of the sweetest, most handsome little men I've ever known.

Thank you for taking me on a date, my sweet boy.

Love, Mommy
