Our weekend: Fourth of July 2016

The littles and momma were getting over our colds so we wanted to try to keep things as low key as possible, yet still capitalize on the 3 day weekend. And let me just say, we were much busier than expected, but it ended up being a blast!
We started by going to the New Berlin 4th of July festival at Malone Park. We had no idea that their brand new all accessible playground had just been dedicated and opened to the public. Our timing was perfect as we arrived right at noon when the dedication ceremony ended and the festival opened. The boys loved playing in the small playground area and, since its an accessible playground, we felt comfortable letting John run around and enjoy himself too!

We walked around the booths and had a family picture taken in the "photo booth" area and then the boys got to visit some animals from a local farm.
Believe it or not, this bunny is just a baby at a whopping 12 pounds!
We left the festival just in time for nap time for the boys and headed home. Erik mowed the lawn and I relaxed and continued getting over my cold. Will was pretty sad to leave the festival and asked numerous times when we get to go back!

We ate a quick lunch at the festival, Will got some popcorn and insisted on throwing the ball at the dunk tank. Luckily, they weren't busy so they let him try multiple times and the guy in the dunk tank "fell in" when Will just barely hit the red button with the ball. He was pretty proud of himself!

Sunday was a pretty low key day. The boys played outside, rode bikes, etc. After lunch we put them down for naps and then sat outside and enjoyed the quiet on our back patio, something we rarely have a chance to do since there always seems to be yard work to catch up on. We even let Stella girl hang outside with us off her lead. She rolled in the grass, enjoyed the sunshine and slept by us on the patio.

4th of July morning we packed up the kids, stroller and all of our stuff and headed to Downtown Waukesha for the 90th annual parade. We got there a little before it started and still scored a pretty good spot with the boys to watch the festivities. They ate snacks & popsicles, collected candy and loved all the trucks and music from the parade.
He had his hat, blanket, nuk and a flag. I'd say he was prepared for just about anything.

The parade handed out freeze pops. Will gave his to Erik and John ate his like a pro!
We originally made no plans for the day and just planned to stay home and relax after the parade. We received some last minute invitations from some of Erik's family and ended up heading to 2 picnics over the course of the afternoon and evening. The kids had so much fun swimming, playing and running around with some cousins they don't usually get to spend time with. It was a long and busy day with zero naps (except for a brief time in the car for John) and not at all what we planned for, but it was a ton of fun and we loved spending the day with our kids and extended family. We were home and all in bed before the fireworks, which we were 100% ok with. Maybe next year we'll be brave enough to keep the boys up late!
John's quick car nap in between the parade and the first picnic. As you can see, he is covered in what we called "4th of July" - freeze pops & tootsie rolls. By the end of the day his tank top added strawberries, watermelon, chocolate cake and an ice cream sandwich. All in all a good day for John!
